A leading light of one of Killarney’s best known business families, Kathleen Duggan, passed away on Sunday following a short illness.
Mrs Duggan, from the Lewis Road, was the daughter of the great Mackey O’Shea, founder of, amongst other enterprises in Killarney, the well-known hardware store MD O’Shea and Sons Ltd.
She is survived by her husband Pat, sons Con, Michael and Patrick (Jnr) and daughter Margaret. She was predeceased by her daughter Catherine and her brothers Donie, Tim and Michael (Fr Fintan), and sister Peggy (Coghlan).
“Her life was her god and everything she did was for god and through god,” her daughter Margaret Pattwell said.
“She was a very good mom. Even in all her sickness she was able to stay at home and we were very privileged that she could.”
Her family remains a central part of the business community in the town, her son Pat runs the Eager’s News Agency on High Street.
Her 13 grandchildren includes champion rally drivers Rob Duggan, Tara and Andrew Duggan and youth champion cyclist Eoghan Pattwell.
She was laid to rest at the Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon following Requiem Mass at Mary’s Cathedral.
