THEIR paths first crossed in the bride’s parents’ kitchen and Ellen Mitchell and Myles Cronin exchanged wedding vows recently.
Ellen, from Castleisland, and Myles, from Maughantourig, Gneeveguilla, were introduced to one another when her sister Katie Mitchell and his friend Kane O’Donovan called into the family home with Myles and another friend. “What’s crazy is my mom originally comes from Gneeveguilla and growing up we spent a lot of time there with my family and grandparents. Myles’ grandparents Micheal and Nell Cronin and my grandparents Danny and Kathleen O’Leary were friends so in a way it’s like it was meant to be,” said Ellen.
They were married recently in St Stephen and St John’s Church in Castleisland by Fr Dan O’Riordan and held their reception at the Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee. Ian Cronin captured the big day on camera.
Helping lead the celebrations were the bride’s parents Eileen and John Mitchell and the groom’s mother and father Kathleen and Timmy Cronin. “My grandmother Phyllis Mitchell attended and was very special to have her there,” said Ellen.
Katie Mitchell was maid of honour with Claire Crowley and Derval Spillane as bridesmaids. The groom’s brother Timothy Cronin was best man with his friend Michéal Carroll and brother-in-law John O’Halloran as groomsmen.
The couple’s sons, Seán Cronin, two, and Tadhg Cronin, six weeks, together with Myles’ nephews Jack and Ollie O’Halloran were pageboys with Paige Campion as flowergirl. “We got engaged in the Castlemartyr Hotel on my birthday 2015 when Myles went down in one knee with our then-10-month-old son Seán present. “Our wedding day was truly beautiful. From start to finish, it really was a day to remember.”
The groom’s uncle Mikie Cronin along with Tim Gleeson and Tom O’Connell performed traditional music at the drinks reception. Truly Diverse ensure the newlyweds and their guests danced the night away, as did DJ Donal Clifford.
Ellen, a theatre nurse, and Myles, a carpenter, enjoyed a mini-moon in the Europe Hotel & Resort and will go on honeymoon next year. They will reside in Maulykeavane.
