To say we have a unique Chatroom for you this weekend would be an absolute understatement!
Our guests this week are Maureen Hegarty and Piaras Kelly, organisers of the inaugural Killarney Mountain Festival, taking place on March 9, 10 and 11 right here in the adventure capital of Ireland
Early on Tuesday morning, Maureen got in touch to tell us that the snow-capped Reeks were looking incredible and asked the question, “Could we bring the couch up to the foot of Carrantouhill and do the interview there?!”
Never one to shy away from a challenge, our own Kieran Healy agreed and plans were put in place for the famous Chatroom couch to be transported up to the foot of Ireland’s highest mountain.
With the help of local legend Jeffrey O’Connor and his new gleaming tractor they made their way up while the amazing Valerie O’Sullivan captured all the madness.
Set against a backdrop that’s so perfect it has to be seen to be believed, Maureen and Piaras chatted about the inspiration behind the new festival and all the events they have planned, such as talks, movies, photography exhibitions, demonstration displays, kids treasure hunt, 10km road run, bands and loads more!
Maureen chatted about the links they have to the hugely successful Kendal Mountain Festival and how they hope to replicate that success and build this new festival up over the next few years. Because, let’s face it, where better to have a mountain festival then right here in Killarney?
