Another campaign the Killarney Advertiser ran two years ago is finally moving forward – as submissions are invited for plans on the N22 Lewis Road and Kilcummin Road Junction Upgrade.

Loss of life and many serious accidents have occurred on the busy road, which sees over 18,500 vehicles pass through every day.
Yesterday (Thursday), the Part 8 proposal went on display in Killarney MD Office, County Buildings and Kerry NRDO as well as on the Kerry County Council website – with a deadline of Thursday, March 21.
On completion of this process, the land acquisition process for the necessary lands will be commenced and it is hoped to have the lands acquired and to have the Construct Contract procured by the end of 2019 – with the works being carried out in 2020.
The new proposals which were tabled by Cllr Niall Kelleher at the last Killarney MD meeting include: the construction of a new Roundabout 400m approx. east of Ballydribbeen Bridge, the realignment of the L2033 Kilcummin Road to tie in to the new roundabout, the construction of a pedestrian/cyclist subway (with public lighting) linking the realigned L2033 to Upper Lewis Road via Bridgefield Estate, the reconfiguration of the Lewis Road junction to left in – left out only, the introduction of raised kerbing through the revised Lewis Road junction to prevent right turning movements and enhanced pedestrian and cycling facilities along this section of the N22.
