Revamped Killarney Culture Centre hosts first event

Last Friday night’s countywide Culture Night marked the first time that the newly refurbished Killarney Cultural Centre on the East Avenue Road was open to the public.
The building was revamped at a cost of €240,000 with half of the cost being provided by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the other half by Kerry County Council.
Local sean-nós singer DB O’Conor presented an hour long session of Irish music, storytelling, sean-nós singing and dancing in the Irish rambling house tradition at the newly revamped venue as part of a series of events to mark Culture Night in Killarney and across the county.
“Friday was the first event and it was great to see a full house,” Eileen O’Donoghue, Killarney Municipal District Officer, told the Killarney Advertiser.
The official opening will take place in the next few weeks.
