Killarney will learn its fate in the annual Tidy Towns Competition later today.

Results of the 51stannual competition will be announced at lunchtime.

Killarney organisers say they are quietly confident that the town can repeat its 2011 success as the overall winner of the competition but would be equally happy if the town was in the top three in its population category.

Killarney last won the large Town award (for towns with a population of under 25,000 people) in 2013.

“We are quietly optimistic that Killarney will stay in the top three in our category and hopefully we can come out overall winners,” Johnny Maguire, a Killarney Tidy Towns committee member told the Killarney Advertiser. “It is a combined effort of the staff and management of the Killarney Municipal District and the Tidy Towns volunteers that have kept Killarney in tip-top shape all year round.”
