Over 2000 participants are expected to take part in Quest Killarney today (Saturday).
Starting and finishing at the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney, this epic adventure race involves competitors running, cycling and kayaking across Killarney’s National Park taking in spectacular locations such as the Gap of Dunloe, Molls Gap, Black Valley, Ring of Kerry, Torc Waterfall, Devil’s Punchbowl, Mangerton Mountain and Muckross House.
“We are delighted to finish the Quest Series for the year in Killarney, it’s our biggest and best event and we’re very excited to be able to welcome more than 2000 adventure racers to town,” Oliver Kirwan, Director, said.
“Now in its ninth year, it’s a great event for businesses in Killarney as many of the participants bring friends and family that support local businesses throughout the weekend. We couldn’t carry off the event without the support of our local stakeholders, residents, the Gardaí and the National Parks. I’d like to thank them all for their ongoing support. The whole team at Quest is looking forward to welcoming all those taking part and we want to wish them the best of luck, enjoy the day and the craic at the after-party!”
Road users are being asked to be aware of large groups of cyclists travelling between the Gleneagle Hotel and the Gap of Dunloe from 7.30am to 11am. Please note the Muckross and Dinis Trail will be closed from 9am to 11.30am and Lord Brandon’s Cottage to N71 on the Kerry Way track will be closed from 8am to 2.30pm.
Dates for all the Quest events in 2020 have been confirmed with all going on sale tomorrow (Saturday) for those who want to start planning their year ahead.
Dates for 2020 are: Quest Kenmare – March 7, Quest Glendalough – April 4, Quest Wales – June 20 (already open for registration), Quest Lough Derg – September 12 and Quest Killarney – October 10.
“2019 has been a fantastic year for us, we introduced a new event in September, Quest Lough Derg, which saw over 1500 participants take to the banks of Lough Derg and surrounding area. It also involved the construction of Ireland’s largest pontoon which we erected across the Shannon between Ballina Co. Tipperary and Killaloe Co. Clare! The event was a huge success and we have had wonderful feedback; we are delighted to confirm it will return again as part of our 2020 series. We’re really looking forward to 2020, we are continuously working on new events and we are planning to expand the series to include exciting new locations which will be announced later in the year.”
