Some top international and local adventurers are lined up for this year’s Killarney Mountain Festival – taking place in the town this weekend.

The festival, from Friday March 8 – 10, will host a series of adventure talks and movies, documentaries, workshops, photographic exhibitions, family fun activities, iconic guided mountain hikes, musical entertainment, and inspiring guest speakers.

Now in its second year, the festival, which is run in association with Kendal Mountain Festival, will feature renowned pioneering mountaineer and living legend – Mick Fowler, who specialises in technically challenging, eye catching lines on peaks between 6000m and 7000m. He will be speaking at the Killarney Plaza Hotel on Friday, March 8, at 8pm. Tickets €12.50.

“We are honoured and thrilled to have such an amazing line up of guest speakers and heart rendering films secured for the Mountain Festival, many are free events,” Chairperson Maureen Hegarty said.

“As well as celebrating all that is adventure, the festival will also raise the roof with plenty of live music entertainment by local band ‘The Rising’ on Friday night at Basecamp, followed by a live session of American mountain themed songs by ‘The Constituents’, a brilliant band visiting us from Arlington Virginia and Saturday night, we’ll have SuperCéilí, they will certainly have the tent rocking.” guiding company will host a series of mountain guided treks while Thomas O’Sullivan will also guide his ‘Pilgrim Path of St Abbán’, a free cultural and historical walk from Basecamp to Aghadoe.

Killarney Hardman Events Director, Alan Ryan, will host a 10km Park Run (ticket event) at Killarney House and Gardens, on Sunday March 10, at 11am.

A children’s treasure hunt, arts and crafts and daily climbing wall are free family events.
