A Killarney councillor is calling for Kerry County Council to employ more outdoor staff in an effort to keep the town looking good.
Cllr Donal Grady raised a motion at last week’s Killarney Municipal District meeting.
He is concerned that there are not enough staff on the ground to maintain streets and parks and that the town was relying too much on volunteers to keep the town tidy.
In September Killarney received a Gold Medal in the annual Tidy Towns competition.
At the time, judges praised volunteers from local groups like Killarney Looking Good.
“Outdoor staff are at the bare bones,” said Cllr Grady. “Only for the volunteers we were gone.”
