A Killarney couple living in the Gap of Dunloe will feature heavily on RTE One’s “Tastes Like Home” tonight (Monday).
Amateur chefs Jason and Marie Walsh will appear on the popular cookery series at 7.30pm, alongside celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio, who also visits Marie’s native Sweden.
The popular TV series, sponsored for the third season by Londis, returned for six consecutive weeks this month, promising a serving of delicious recipes steeped in tradition and a flavour of incredible culture and sights from locations right across the world.
Tonight viewers will see Catherine visit Marie’s father Anders Lilja in Stockholm and cook an old family recipe – a traditional Swedish casserole called “Jansson’s Temptation” – which includes meatballs with potato purée, brown sauce, lingonberry jelly and pickled cucumbers.
She then returns to Ireland to visit Marie and Jason in the stunning Gap of Dunloe in Killarney, where she creates an Irish Smörgåsbord with smoked salmon, prawn toast, beetroot apple salad, and sweet and sour vegetables.
Catherine will also put her own unique flavour on the meatball dish as Marie, who moved from Sweden over nine years ago, still misses all the tasteful delights of Swedish food.
The couple, who recently became parents to twin boys Ossian and Tadhg, said today that they are really looking forward to watching it.
“I love the show,” Jason, a water sports instructor, said.
“We have a love of cooking and when I saw the show advertised I applied as we are both amateur chefs. We’re really looking forward to seeing it.”
During filming, which took place last June, Jason took the film crew to various areas including the Gap of Dunloe, and then around Dinis Island and Muckross Lake on a Canadian canoe.
The Moriarty’s of Heather Restaurant also feature tonight, Jason added.
“We had a beautiful day out filming as it was so calm and sunny. It’s a spectacular place and we’re very privileged to live here. Ultimately I did it for the Gap of Dunloe – to give them a good story as it’s had some sad news in recent times.”
