This week a generous €2,785 was handed over to charity – thanks to the selfless act of kindness by one local lady.
Lisa Ní Iarlaithe, who lives in Lissivigeen, opted for donations to a charity close to her heart – instead of presents at her recent 50th birthday celebrations in the Killarney Avenue Hotel.
And this week, after making the lodgement to ‘Straight Ahead Ireland’, a medical support group affiliated to Crumlin, which provides surgery, support and medical equipment for children with orthopaedic conditions, she told the Killarney Advertiser that she’s very thankful to everyone who gave so generously.
“It was a great occasion,” Lisa, who is Deputy Principal at Gaelscoil Faithleann, said.
“Thanks to everybody, my family and friends.”
Lisa’s daughter Éabha suffers from scoliosis and has undergone up to 20 operations since the age of six to straighten her back. Last summer, she had to have a bone fusion and new rods inserted into her back during a 10 hour operation – which is why Lisa chose the charity, which was set up in 2011.
“I feel good that I did this for the ‘Straight Ahead’ foundation. Hopefully it will help some other child along the way.”
