A plan to dedicate a roundabout to the legendary Radio Kerry broadcaster Weeshie Fogarty was approved at the Killarney Municipal Council (KMD) meeting on Thursday.
The late Weeshie was a staunch Legion GAA supporter. He played for the green and white from the underage ranks until an eye injury ended his playing career, but not before he had won an All-Ireland medal with Kerry in 1969.
His broadcasting career started in 1989 and he hosted Radio Kerry’s award-winning ‘Terrace Talk’ until shortly before his death in November 2018.
Elected members and council officials want to remember the great footballer and broadcaster and a proposal was put before a KMD meeting to name the roundabout at Dalton’s Avenue/Marian Terrace and adjacent to the main entrance to Fitzgerald Stadium in his memory.
“His heart and soul was in Fitzgerald Stadium,” Cllr Donal Grady told the meeting. “It is very fitting to dedicate this to his memory.”
