The Kingdom Comedy Club opened its doors to the public on Saturday June 2nd, upstairs in The Eviston House Hotel, smack bang in the heart of Killarney.
The brainchild of local businessman Tony Dunne (owner of network marketing agency Kingdom Media) & Cork comedian and promoter Cornelius ‘Family Guy’ O’ Sullivan, the club is initially running for the 5 Saturdays in June but hopes to extend its stay for long after
So, how did a blow-in Kerryman (Tony) and a Corkman (Cornelius) get together in the first place and dream up this hair brained scheme? Good question! The answer is simple their collective love for stand up comedy. They both met a few years back at a show Cornelius was performing in and ended up bonding over a few pints and have been pals ever since. These guys simply love comedy and after a chat one day they decided that it was time to set the wheels in motion and open up a comedy club!!! Tony being a well respected business man in the town located a venue and looked after all the administration, branding, nitty gritty & bits and pieces that are essential to make the comedy nights happen, and Cornelius with 10 years experience on the Irish circuit cultivates the gigs, hand picking the very best of national and international talent, while hosting the shows too.
It’s a marriage made in heaven; a modern day bromance (both their wives are just happy to be rid of them and out of the house every Saturday night!). The shows start at 9pm and the doors open at 8:30pm and initially for the first run of shows it is FREE entry. The dream is to have a regular comedy club in Kerry, and Killarney is the ideal spot as it is a vibrant and energetic town, and hopefully the local community will get behind these two dreamers and support another local business trying to make its way in the world. So, come on down, grab a drink, take a seat and have a good old laugh for yourself!
Life is short.
