Some of the biggest names in international darts will be Killarney for a new tournament in November.

The new for 2019 Killarney Darts Festival will take place at the INEC between November 8 and 10.

It is a joint venture between the Irish National Darts Organisation, the governing body for the sport in Ireland, and British Darts Organisation (BDO), organiser of the famous World Professional Championships tournament that takes place each January in London and broadcast live on Eurosport.

The London flagship event attracts the best dart players in the world and with the Killarney event offering at total €28,000 in prizemoney, Irish organisers hope to attract some of the biggest names in Europe to the INEC.

Full details of the competition have yet to be released but a launch event is being readied for the Gleneagle Hotel in coming weeks.

Local dart competitors welcomed the news.

“It is a big deal and will raise awareness in the town,” Kerry Darts Team Manager, Gary McCormick, told the Killarney Advertiser.

“The town league is starting soon and it looks like we will have 20 teams instead of 28 this year, but this event will promote darts in the county and in Ireland.”
