THE weather may have played spoilsport yesterday but it hasn’t stopped the determined team behind Killarney Regatta which is now staging the eagerly anticipated event at 2.30pm today.

The 231st annual regatta promises a carnival atmosphere as it unfolds at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club.

Admission is free to this exciting family event, with the regatta programme consisting of 16 races catering for all ages from under-16 to veteran. “The regatta is run over three courses, all rowed in traditional Killarney Sixes wooden boats,” said Killarney Regatta secretary Kathy Brosnan.

“Entries have been received from all six clubs in Killarney, Fossa, Workmen, Muckross, Flesk Valley, St Brendan’s and Commercials.”

Expect all the usual top-class onshore entertainment, including music and dancing, a bonny baby competition, barbecue, marquee bar, and fun and games for children.

The regatta dance and presentation of medals and trophies will take place in the Killarney Oaks Hotel tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12, at 9pm, with tickets available for purchase on the door. Of course, this event will also feature the selection of the Regatta Queen.
