Killarney is to celebrate retaining its Purple Flag by holding a weekend of colourful celebrations next week.

The accolade, which recognises excellence in safety, vibrancy and diversity of the evening and night-time economy of the town, will be celebrated over weekend of October 18 – 20.

Killarney Purple Flag Working Group have acquired Purple Flag stickers which will be circulated to businesses in the purple flag area, and are seeking the support of businesses by displaying them in their premises.

On Saturday afternoon, October 19, the Purple Flag mascot will be out and about around the town, mingling on the streets and calling to shops and businesses.

“We would like to seek the support of all hotels and business owners in the town over this weekend, the following being a number of ideas which could be carried out, including  lighting premises in purple, decorating windows in purple, Purple Friday or Saturday where staff dress in purple, prominent buildings/cultural/heritage/businesses illuminated purple and purple themed events serving of non-alcoholic purple cocktails,” the group said.
