Fresh from the news that acclaimed actor Cillian Murphy is a fan, talented Killarney singer-songwriter Ronan Kealy, who performs under the stage name Junior Brother, received another celebrity endorsement this week.
Blindboy Boatclub of The Rubberbandits became the latest well-known personality to throw his considerable weight behind Kealy when he shared the video for ‘The Back of Her’ with his 187,000 Twitter followers. The Limerick comedian/musician tweeted the YouTube video for Kealy’s new single along with the caption, “New Junior Brother tune, he’s making some of the best songs in Ireland at the moment”.
He later quoted some lyrics from the song before reflecting, “what an original voice he has”.
Blindboy has become one of the most influential public voices for a generation of Irish people and he has a well-deserved reputation for promoting fresh Irish talent.
Speaking to the Killarney Advertiser, Kealy, who is a native of Kilcummin, said Blindboy’s words were extremely encouraging.
“The Rubberbandits have been a massive inspiration to me for many years,” he said. “Their seal of approval is a profound affirmation and motivation to keep going on the path I’m on.”
Kealy later shared a screenshot of the tweet on his Instagram page with the caption, “Yurt. ‘The Back of Her’ is now on YouTube and streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and elsewhere. Now if you don’t mind I’m going to frame this tweet and be buried with it”.
