Members of the Kerry Branch of the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI) will demonstrate outside the constituency offices of a Government Minister and Fine Gael TD today (Monday) as frustration grows among publicans that their businesses remain shut after closing almost six months ago.

The Vintners plan to hold demonstrations outside the offices of Minister for Health Norma Foley in Tralee and Brendan Griffin, TD, in Castlemaine.

Under social distancing guidelines, the demonstrations will be restricted to 15 people.

“We waited for Government to announce a financial package for publicans who are closed six months, but after last week’s ‘crumbs’ of support we feel the only way to make progress is to hold dignified demonstrations outside constituency offices,” VFI Kerry Branch Chairman, Christy Walsh, said.

“Our families are suffering, with the continued shutdown publicans are finding they can’t repay loans or send their kids back to college.

“We expect Minister Foley and Brendan Griffin to bring back the message to Government that Kerry publicans need support and demand to be allowed reopen.”

The Vintners plan to hold constituency demonstrations every Monday until all pubs are allowed reopen and comprehensive supports are implemented.
