President’s Cup 1/4 Final
Scotts Lakers 81
Limerick Celtics 83
There was heartache for the Scotts Lakers on Saturday night as they crashed out of the cup following an agonising overtime defeat to the Limerick Celtics.
The Lakers thought they had won it when Séamus Brosnan knocked down a shot from the corner as the horn sounded at the end of regulation. Unfortunately for the hosts, Brosnan’s toe was on the line so his three-pointer was, in fact, a two, which meant the game was deadlocked at 70-70.
Cheered on by a vociferous home crowd, Cormac O’Donoghue’s side regrouped for OT and despite a valiant team effort, they ultimately fell to the Celtics by just two points. Limerick’s star player, Turrell Morris, iced the game with a three-point play at the death and they will now advance to the semi-final where they will face Southern Conference leaders Ballincollig.
