An inspirational advert co-starring Kerry footballer David Clifford has been viewed 56,000 times on Facebook this week.

The ad, which was commissioned by the Kerry GAA Store, portrays a young boy trying on a Kerry jersey under the watchful gaze of his mother. As soon as he puts on the green and gold he transforms into Young Footballer of the Year David Clifford, perfectly encapsulating every young boy’s dream of becoming a Kerry footballer.

The video has proved to be a hit on Facebook where it has been shared 637 times at the time of going to print. Store manager and former Kerry star Seán O’Sullivan, who also makes a cameo appearance in the ad, is pleased with how the video has been received.

“We just wanted to try something different in terms of our social media,” he said. “We haven’t done anything like this before so we’re delighted with the way it came out. There has been a fantastic reaction. David is a young man in demand but in fairness to him, the minute we put it to him what we wanted to do, he was on board straight away.”

Seán also hailed the performance of the real star, young Fionn McGillicuddy who stole the show with his impressive acting skills.

While Seán admits that there is no guarantee that Facebook views will translate to sales, he is hopeful that it will have a positive impact heading into the Christmas period.

“It has people talking about the store and talking about the Kerry jersey. If that leads more to people coming in the door, it was well worth it.”

The four-time All-Ireland winner, who recently took the reins from Niall ‘Botty’ O’Callaghan at popular Outlet Centre store, was quick to praise Chris McGillicuddy and his team at the Brand Geeks who organised the production of the video and the talented Stephen O’Donoghue of Stephen O’Donoghue Wedding Films who recorded it.
