A remarkable shooting display from team captain Mark Greene helped the Scotts Lakers to an impressive 105-86 victory over Tolka Rovers on Saturday night as the Killarney side officially confirmed their spot in the 2019 National League Playoffs.

Greene shot an incredible seven three-pointers in the first half alone and with Englishman Dailian Mason also on song from long range, the hosts quickly built up a commanding lead.

At half-time, fans speculated that Greene could be on course to break the Irish record for threes in a game (unconfirmed reports suggest that 11 is the most), but the skipper added “just” two more in the second half before checking out of the game late in the fourth quarter.

It mattered little as Cormac O’Donoghue’s side coasted to an impressive victory against a decent Tolka Rovers outfit who are currently fourth in the north.

This result coupled with IT Carlow’s defeat means that the Lakers are now guaranteed a top two finish in the Southern Conference. Once the regular season is finished (just two games remain), they will face Northern Conference leaders DBS Éanna away in the semi-final. Beating the 21-0 Dubliners will be a tall order but if Greene shoots the ball like he did on Saturday night, anything can happen.

Lakers’ top scorers: Mark Greene (29), Dailian Mason (21), Papito Hersisia (21) and Seán O’Brien (17).
