A new training programme, which aims to offer education and training to learners with very basic literacy skills, has been launched in Killarney.

Garda James Lenihan and Garda Fiona Reidy from Killarney Garda Station launched ‘The Garda Streetwise Programme’ at the Kerry Parents and Friends centre in Port Road.

Garda Lenihan explained how ‘Streetwise’ is a relatively new training programme which aims to offer education and training to learners with very basic literacy skills regarding the interface between people in the community, the Gardai and law enforcement.

“This project will also offer education on topics such as safety on social media, alcohol, road safety, drugs, legalities and more,” Garda Lenihan, who will deliver the programme with Garda Reidy, told the Killarney Advertiser.

“We are looking forward to working with the Kerry Parents and Friends on this initiative.”
