€2,000 was generously handed over to the Kerry Hospice Foundation (KHF) on Sunday morning all in memory of a much loved local man. Locals in the Village Inn Kilcummin held a sweepstake in memory Derry O’Leary (44) who sadly passed away last April from cancer.

Derry, who was married to Helen, loved to go to Cheltenham every year which is why his friends decided to do a sweepstakes in his memory.

“We raised a nice sum of money,” his friend Diarmuid O’Donoghue told the Killarney Advertiser.

The sweepstake was won by John Keogh from Killarney who gave it back which added to the final amount donated to charity.

Described as a gentleman, Derry worked in Dawn Dairies in Killarney, and also loved the GAA, especially his local Kilcummin Club.

It was decided to donate the funds to the KHF where Derry had received excellent care.
