A wonderful member of staff often referred to as ‘mother’ was warmly remembered by her colleagues this week as they presented a cheque to charity.

Rita McLellan, late of Faha and previously of Ardshanavooley, received wonderful care in the Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital Kerry prior to her death in October 2019.

And, as a way to honour her memory her colleagues this year decided to raise funds for Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Muckross Garden Restaurant raised €6,000 donating the funds from their annual Crib Collection.

The team presented the cheque to Pat Doolan from the Killarney branch last week.

Rita had been a valued friend and colleague in Muckross Garden Restaurant since 1988 and part of the Muckross ‘family’ where she was often referred to as ‘mother’, according to restaurant manager Colin Baker.

“Rita was most popular with all our tourists and local customers alike and to this day she is still fondly remembered by our Irish holiday makers who return each year,” he said. “She left a lasting impression on everyone.”
