AT THE first Kerry County Committee Meeting of January 17 David Clifford of Fossa was confirmed as captain of the Kerry minor football team for 2017.
David was nominated by county minor champions East Kerry and it is a well-deserved honour for this most talented player.
Other decisions at the meeting, under the chairmanship of the new county chairman Tim Murphy, included the following: Fintan O’Connor was ratified as the Kerry senior hurling manager along with coach/selector Brendan Cummins and selector Ian Brick.
The Scór Sinsear County Finals are fixed for February 18 in Castleisland, with the district finals to be completed by February 5.
Aidan McCabe of Kilmoyley was confirmed as the new Kerry senior hurling captain.
The Master Fixtures Calendar for the coming year was ratified. The draw for the various club championships will be made before the end of the month in Austin Stack Park.
Management of the Kerry under-17 hurling team was ratified. Giles O’Grady of Ballyduff is manager with selectors Paul O’Donoghue (Crotta O’Neills), David Brick (Tralee Parnells) and David O’Dea (GDA) who is also the co-ordinator for the team.
The various sub committees were appointed for the coming year.
It was decided to hold all future county committee meetings in the newly refurbished Austin Stack Park Pavilion. There will be seven meetings in all between January and November.
A recommendation from Croke Park was read into the minutes requesting that all minor competitions, both county and district, should be completed by the second week in October to facilitate the playing of post-primary colleges competitions.
