The Irish Cancer Society has cancelled Daffodil Day collections and events due to Coronavirus.

It has taken the decision to cancel all street collections that were scheduled for Friday, March 27.

Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s biggest fundraiser, taking place each year in March. Funds raised go towards supporting cancer patients and their loved ones by providing free advice and support as well as by funding life-saving cancer research.

“It’s a big, big loss to us,” said Kathrina Breen from the Killarney South Kerry branch of the Irish Cancer Society.

“We’ll know more next week and hopefully we would be able to put up boxes with daffodils in shops, but we don’t know yet. I encourage everyone to donate online as our collectors are our priority at this time.”

Supporters can still make a donation in the absence of any collections on Daffodil Day at cancer.ie.
