Councillors paid glowing tributes to outgoing councillor John Joe Culloty at this week’s Killarney Municipal District meeting.

On Wednesday morning, Cllr Niall Kelleher led the well-wishes saying Cllr Culloty, who is not seeking re-election this time around, was “nothing but dedicated and energetic in his role”.

“We’ve always worked well together for the greater good,” Cllr Kelleher said at the meeting in the Town Hall.

“He was a fantastic ambassador for this town.”

Other councillors, including Brendan Cronin, Maura Healy-Rae, Michael Gleeson, Donal O’Grady, John Sheahan and Bobby O’Connell, also praised the local councillor, saying he stood for what he believed in since he was elected in 2014.

“You’re a very dedicated councillor who left no stone unturned,” Cllr Sheahan said.

“You were very generous with your time.”

Maura Healy-Rae added that he was a tremendous worker for the Killarney area, while Donal O’Grady said that “the amount of work he did was unreal and he’ll be sadly missed as a councillor for the town”.

The Fianna Fáil councillor added that he appreciated all the well-wishes and will continue his the work on a voluntary basis.

“I really do appreciate all that’s being said,” he told his colleagues. “I’ve done the best I can do and I’ve no regrets.”
