The Christmas trees have been taken down this week and now Kerry County Council is encouraging homeowners in the greater Killarney area to recycle them using their free mulching service.
The free recycling service is available until Friday, January 17 at the lower New Street car park in Killarney.
“The location is ideal,” John Ahern told the Killarney Advertiser.
The Council is urging people to avail of the service and dispose of trees correctly and in an environmentally friendly way.
“The trees are all broken up and mulched. The mulching is then used as bedding for the ground all around Killarney town.”
The environmental campaign has been running for several years throughout its many collection points in Killarney, Tralee, Listowel and more. It helps households with no facilities to dispose their Christmas trees and holly, he explained.
Make sure to drop by and avail of the service as it’s free of charge and environmentally friendly.
