Staff and pupils have teamed up with local musical groups to create a brand new CD collection.
‘It’s Christmas in Killarney!’, which was launched on Monday, is a choral and musical celebration of Christmas to get everyone in the festive mood.
The 29 song, two CD collection includes live recordings of the Killarney Golf Club Male Voice Choir, St Oliver’s National School Choir and O Happy Day Ladies’ Choir singing Christmas songs in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Killarney.
And the groups are planning to team up for a public performance on Tuesday, December 10 in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, at 7.30pm.
In early December 2008, the newly formed Killarney Golf Club Male Voice Choir joined the St Oliver’s NS Choir for a performance of Christmas songs and carols. The blend proved so popular it has been repeated every year since. And a number of years ago Russ Browne involved the O Happy Day Ladies’ Choir.
“For the last few years, listening to the three choirs on this special night, I would get the same notion every year, that we should record this night on CD,” Noel O’Sullivan, CD producer, said.
“Fortunately I met Tony Flaherty and he mentioned that he had some dates free for recording in January. So I went to the three choirs with a unique request: could we record a Christmas CD in January? Josephine Doncel, Choir Director of the St Oliver’s NS Choir and Russ Browne director of the other two choirs gave me the thumbs up and so we got to work throughout January. It was a strange experience singing Christmas songs in January but it was so worth it!”
The profits from the CDs will be going to the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and the St Oliver’s school fund. The CDs are available from shops around Killarney and from the office in St Oliver’s NS for only €10 with a limited run available.
