Two members of the Dr Crokes GAA club have the unique honour of holding the captaincy of both Men’s and Women’s County football teams at the same time.

Gavin White led the Kingdom to their 81stMunster title in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Saturday night.

Clubmate Amanda Brosnan will captain the Kerry ladies squad when they face the yet to be decided Connaught champions (Galway or Mayo) in the first round of the All-Ireland championship qualifiers, which will take place on the weekend of July 12 to 14.

“It is a fantastic honour and the highlight of my career,” Amanda Brosnan told the Killarney Advertiser. “I am coming to the end of my career. I am 30 now, and each season I ask myself if I want to go back to the Kerry set-up as it’s a massive commitment. We won the Senior County Championship and in the same way the men’s work, they select the captain from the county winners. Earlier this year I met the new manager, Donal Doherty, who told me I would be captain if I came back this year, and I made up my mind there and then.”
