Planning permission has been granted ten social houses on Rock Road on land donated by the Mercy Sisters.
The proposed development will include eight two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom apartments.
Currently there are over 1,200 individuals and families on the social housing waiting list in Killarney and this project will meet the demands of ten of those.
Details of the project were unveiled at the Killarney Municipal District elected members meeting in Killarney Town Hall on Tuesday this week.
The site, a few metres from the entrance to the new coach and car park on Rock Road and to the east of Coolegrean housing estate.
“We all welcome this,” said Mayor Michael Gleeson.
”It is a hugely important development,” said Councillor Brendan Cronin. “And we thank the sisters that we can proceed with it.”
It is hoped that construction would be completed by December 2020.
