They finished with a total of 139 points, 26 behind the winning team but a good showing considering this was their first time playing in this format. Outside Competitions: We had some good success for our club members in competitions outside the county in the last two weeks. Paudie Looney was the winner of the Junior Scratch Cup in Collins, Cork on the Bank Holiday Monday and he also teamed up with Hugh O’Sullivan and John Clifton to win a prize in the club’s Three Ball Scramble as well. Daragh O’Keeffe meanwhile was second in the Intermediate section at the Hillview Scratch Cup in Clonmel last Sunday. Well done to all concerned. Results Youths Cup Replay: St. Brendans Park 3 Killarney Celtic 3 (Killarney Celtic win 4-2 on penalties) A tight, exciting game all through. 1-1 after 90 minutes, extra-time. Down 3-1, staring defeat in the face. Stared that imposter in the face more than once before; Celtic with two great strikes to earn a draw. Penalty shoot-outs are usually a dice throw, but they are loaded if you have a keeper like Jack O’Neill. Two great saves later, and Celtic are into the Cup Final. U14 Premier: Killarney Celtic 3 St. Brendans Park 0 One final hurdle to claim the U14 league title, and Celtic cleared it with ease after a tough start. U13 Cup Final: Killarney Celtic 3 Listowel Celtic 1 An absolute thriller of a game. We opened with a strong wind and David Spillane adroitly volleyed a corner to the net, but that lead never looked like being enough at half-time. Darragh Goulding equalised for Listowel and it was a thrilling contest all the way. 1-1 and extra-time. Still deadlocked at the mini-break. Finally, after a scintillating 75 minutes of football, Luke OíDonoghue and Cian Gammell combined to get a dangerous ball into the box and an unlucky Listowel defender gave an own goal. A minute later another great Cian Gammell cross took a twist into the net and Killarney Celtic were finally clear, but well done too to a fantastic Listowel outfit who gave us a great and thrilling battle. Congratulations to Paudie Griffin, Gerry Falvey, and a hugely committed and talented young team. U13 Div One: Killarney Celtic 4 Listowel Celtic 0 This was a very tough game and that final scoreline definitely doesn’t reflect Listowel Celtic’s courage and determination, they should in fact have taken the lead after a penalty off the woodwork, but Killarney Celtic had equal heart and slightly more craft. Congratulations to manager Brian McCarthy, Anthony Heeney, and Gavin Boyne. Fixtures Henneberry Cup: Killarney Celtic B away to Ballyheigue, Sunday, 2.30pm Youths Cup Semi-Final: Killarney Celtic away to Killarney Athletic, Saturday, 2.30pm U16 Cup Final: Killarney Celtic away to Killarney Athletic, Friday, 6.45pm U14 Cup Final: Celtic v Kingdom Boys, at Park pitch, Sunday, 3.30pm U13 Girls Cup Final: Celtic v Listowel, at Park pitch, Wednesday 23rd at 7.00pm U11 Cup Final: Killarney Celtic v Park, Sunday, 1.30pm at Kingdom Boys Lotto Results: Numbers drawn 5, 10, 16, 22. Kerry Area Basketball Congratulations to Liam Culloty of Tralee Imperials on being named Divison One Ladies Coach of the Year and Eileen O’Connor of Tom McCarthys St. Marys on being the Ladies Division One Player of the Year. Schools Super Sevens Slam Finals Night 2012 The Presentation Gym hosted the finals of Boys the Schools Super Sevens Slam 2012 on Thursday evening last and a large attendance enjoyed the finals. Shield Final: Firies 13 v Holy Family Rathmore 11 . The Shield Final was a thrilling game won by Firies with a very late basket with just seconds remaining against a well organised and determined Rathmore. Cup Final St Olivers 12 v Presentation Monastery 4 . The Cup Final was an all town affair with a very confident St Olivers Ballycasheen overcoming champions Gneeveguilla in the semi-final taking on a fancied Presentation Monastery who were undefeated going into the final. The sides were well matched in a tense opening half with St Olivers just ahead by a basket at the break thanks to baskets by Robert Osbourne. The Mon were struggling for scores despite the best efforts of Paul Moriarty and Darragh Lyne and St Olivers were in confident mood and took control late in the second half with David Leen contributing some great baskets to which the Mon had no answer as the Ballycasheen side finished much the stronger in the final minutes to deservedly take the Cup title. All fixtures, results, and news for Kerry basketball is available on www.kerrybasketball.ie Anyone with information for these notes, please contact Jimmy Darcy on 087 9633397 or email pro-press@kerrybasketball.ie
Workmen’s Rowing Club Everyone at Workmen’s Rowing Club, would like to wish our honourary treasurer, Brendan Heffernan, a speedy and successful recovery after his operation at The Mercy Hospital Cork last week. Brendan has been an inspiration to us all through-out his illness. His determination and will to recover is remarkable. Brendan is still keeping an eye on all our finances, but his assistant Pauline hasn’t told him that Mikey Joe signed over all the accounts to himself and has purchased five new quads, two engines and a bar-b-que set! Battie O’Sullivan his newly appointed brother is keeping a space for him at Cronin’s supermarket for lunchtime. Timmy hasn’t ventured out of his milking parlour for weeks! We miss the spot checks with Robert his gorgeous son on Sunday mornings. We hope that everything goes well for Brendan and like all good cliches, Time is a great healer. Get Well Brendan...from all the Workmen’s Rowing Club. Rowing Continues at the usual times for veteran men’s and novice crews. Juniors - Saturday and Sunday morning at 10.30am. New members always welcome. |
